About Margaret Woodliff Wright –
The Northumberland Milliner

Margaret Woodliff Wright is a couture milliner, each hat, headpiece or accessory that she creates has been lovingly and painstakingly made by her, using classic handcrafted millinery techniques. Heavily influenced by her passion for colour, textures, design, fabric and her historical and contemporary fashion researches, Margaret, The Northumberland Milliner, has an eclectic millinery style with a special interest in recycling and sustainability.

During a long career in retail buying, a chance encounter with craft aspects of hat making led Margaret to find herself completely entranced by the world of model millinery. Eager to explore this new world further, in 2011 she enrolled at Leeds College of Art on a concentrated two-year couture millinery course, graduating with High Distinctions in 2013. A very significant aspect of the attraction that millinery holds for Margaret is that millinery is a multi-disciplinary craft. These include couture dressmaking, feather work, beadwork and jewellery making, photography, block making, the list is endless!

Margaret creates hats and headpieces to reflect and enhance the personality of the wearer, complimenting the outfit whilst encapsulating the nature of the occasion. She believes it is essential that when wearing one of her hats or headpieces, you feel completely and utterly special. Her designs have been worn at every sort of event, near and far, at home and abroad, both at grand occasions and less formal ones too! If you would like to know more about commissioning a hat or headpiece, please use the “Book a Consultation” form below to get in touch for more details.
